Tooth-A-Coaster

Awhile ago I had a dream I call the tooth-a-coaster. In the dream, I was running my tongue along the top of my teeth, and when I got to the molars in the back the teeth began to curl inward like a classic roller-coaster corkscrew.

My teeth actually do this to a very small extent in real life (my wisdom teeth are slanted slightly inward), but in the dream it reached the point that some teeth were pointed straight in toward my tongue.

Decay Tour

The last dream I had should be a ride at Disneyland. I dreamt I was slowly drifting through my mouth. I must have been shrunk very small, but that would still leave the issue of how I could be floating within my own mouth. Contemplate that over your breakfast.

I couldn't choose the path I took, it was as if I were riding on invisible rails. The teeth (my teeth) I saw were yellowed and speckled with brown abcesses. At one point I took a hard left, toward the teeth and as I continued on I realized I was headed directly toward a particular tooth and a particular hole in that tooth.

I slowly drifted through it; the tooth was so badly decayed as I entered I could see back out to my mouth through several additional holes in the tooth. Inside it was black, cragged peaks, like a charred mountainscape.

I floated back out the tooth through the top, rising slowly like a half-filled helium balloon. As I gained perspective I realized the tooth I had just been through was not unique. All the teeth in my mouth were like it - yellowed, cratered, perforated by decay.

Dreams of Teeth

You don't get to pick your recurring dream. I hate to even call it that - a recurring dream - but there's really no denying it now.

Often, I dream of my teeth. They are dreams of decay. I dream of my teeth falling out, getting knocked out, becoming so brittle just biting down causes them to crack and splinter.

I'll keep a record of these dreams here as I have them, mostly for myself, but also for any others who happen upon this spot. Good night...
